Three injured in Vancouver crash

On January 21, 2014 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Vancouver Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of NE Fourth Plain Blvd./NE Andresen Rd.

According to witnesses, which included a Vancouver Police Officer that was at the intersection at the time of the crash, a vehicle without its headlights on was travelling westbound on NE Fourth Plain at a high rate of speed when it ran the red light at the intersection and crashed into another vehicle that was eastbound on Fourth Plain making a left (northbound) turn onto Andresen Rd. The vehicle that ran the light caught on fire after the crash and the Vancouver Police Officer at the scene used multiple fire extinguishers to squelch the fire before Fire Department personnel arrived.

The driver of the vehicle that ran the light, Ashley R. Gumbel, 28, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and the two occupants of the other vehicle, Levi J. Verstegen, 20 and Sierra S. Hornsby, 19 were transported with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been treated and released.

The Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating.
