Storm brings strong winds and record setting rain

The last of a trio of storms hit the Northwest Sunday night.  At the coast winds gusted to 65 m.p.h. and at Timberline Lodge the peak wind gust was 79 m.p.h.

Winds weren't that strong in the Portland area, but they were strong enough to send tree limbs whipping into power lines.  At the peak of the storm, PGE had 18,000 customers without power.  Crews worked all night to get power restored.  By Monday morning, about 8,000 customers were without power.

A rain soaked hillside above Highway 43 near McVey Avenue in Lake Oswego gave way Sunday night sending mud and debris onto the highway.  It was closed so crews could remove the debris.  Highway 43 was open for the Monday morning commute.
