New help to avoid foreclosure

New help to avoid foreclosure

Oregon families have trouble making the mortgage payment might find help through the state's "Home Rescue Program."

Up to $30,000 in aid is available to households that can prove a recent loss of ten-percent of income. If approved, assistance is available for past due payments and future payments.

Benjamin Pray with the Oregon Department of Housing and Community Services hopes families will ask for help before it is too late.

"They don't have to be past due right now," said Pray. "It's all for foreclosure prevention. If someone is struggling to make their payments, this could help them."

The program is funded by the U.S. Treasury's "Hardest Hit Fund."
