5 Alarm Fire Destroys NE Portland Building

5 Alarm Fire Destroys NE Portland Building

The first call came in at 4:14 a.m of a building on fire at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Monroe.

When the first crews arrived they immediately called a second alarm, because the building was fully involved.

As third and fourth alarms were called, and emergency alert went out to firefighters to move away from the building and moments later the building collapsed.

The fire sent flaming ashes into the night sky with those embers landing on nearby houses.  Fire crews raced to put out those fires and protect homes.

No one was injured in the fire.

5 alarms is the maximum callout for the Portland Fire Bureau.

The last time they called 5 alarms for a fire was when the closed Thunderbird Hotel at Jantzen Beach was destroyed last year.
