Boise Hawks bring their brooms to Hillsboro

The Hillsboro Hops (8-25) ended their second series of the year against the Boise Hawks (17-16) on the wrong note on Wednesday, as they lost 5-1. It is the third time the Hops have been swept in a three game series this year.

Hops' starting pitcher Ben Eckels (1-5) received the loss as he threw five complete innings and allowed three Boise runs, only one of them being earned. He allowed two hits and struck out five, but two walks, two passed balls and a hit batter mixed with a single from Hawks' shortstop Carlos Penalver in the top of the second inning resulted in three Boise. Eckels ended with five walks total.

The score would remain 3-0 Boise until the Hops scraped across one run in the bottom of the fourth. After a leadoff double from Yogey Perez-Ramos, Jordan Parr moved him to third on an infield single, and Randy McCurry hit a deep sac fly to center field to score what would be the only run the Hops would score.

The Hawks added on two more runs in the top of the ninth on a throwing error from left fielder Jordan Parr, as well as a Shawon Dunston Jr. single through the left side of the infield.
