Beavers Rally for Walk Off Win!

Beavers Rally for Walk Off Win!

The Oregon State Beavers were unable to come through with a big hit for much of the game, but they came through when it counted. Cleanup hitter Dylan Davis drilled a double into the right-center field gap scoring the tying and winning runs with one out in the bottom of the ninth giving Oregon State a 5-4 win over Texas-San Antonio in OSU's first game in the 2013 Corvallis regional.

UTSA took advantage of two Oregon State errors to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth, and when the Beavers went down in order in the bottom of the eighth, things looked bleak for OSU, the #3 national seed.

However Tyler Smith led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk. He was sacrified to second by Andy Peterson. Then, Pac-12 Player of the Year Michael Conforto was hit by a pitch which put the potential winning run on base. As he has done so often this season, Davis delivered in the clutch. His gap shot brought home both Smith and Conforto, and the large home crowd broke into jubilant celebration.

Davis, who led the Pac-12 Conference in RBI during the regular season, finished the game with three hits in five at-bats. He scored two runs and drove in two. His game-winning RBI double was the only extra-base hit of the game.

Max Engelbrekt (5-1) pitched 1.2 innings of hitless relief to earn the victory.

UTSA will play Texas A&M in an elimination game Saturday morning, then Oregon State will play UC-Santa Barbara in a 5 pm game late Saturday afternoon. UC-Santa Barbara defeated Texas A&M 6-4 in the first game of the regional Friday.

UC-Santa Barbara is coached by former Oregon State pitcher Andrew Checketts. The Gauchos Director of Athletics is former OSU Assistant A.D. Mark Massari.

Radio coverage of the OSU vs. UC-Santa Barbara game will begin Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 620.
