Beavers host Dawgs Saturday

Coverage of OSU vs. UW begins at 4:30p Saturday on 1190 KEX.

BEAVS LOOK TO CLINCH WINNING RECORD: A win Saturday would clinch a winning record for Oregon State for the season, marking the program’s second consecutive winning season and eighth under head coach Mike Riley. A victory would bolster the team’s bowl resume in a league that currently has eight teams eligible for postseason with Washington State on the cusp of making it nine teams with a win at home over Utah Saturday. The Pac-12 has agreements with seven bowl partners – Rose Bowl, presented by Vizio, Valero Alamo, National University Holiday, Hyundai Sun, Royal Purple Las Vegas, Fight Hunger and Gildan New Mexico. Teams not selected for one of those bowls would be eligible for an at-large invitation.

THIRD PLACE COULD BE LOCKED UP: Oregon State could clinch third place in the Pac-12 North with a win and a Washington State loss at home to Utah. OSU was predicted to finish third in the North in a preseason media poll.

LOOKING TO AVOID 4-GAME SKID: Saturday Oregon State will be trying to avoid a dubious four-game losing streak, a skid it last had at the start of the 2011 season and one it hasn’t had this deep in the season since a four-game slide late in 1998.

ATTENDANCE NUMBER: Oregon State will likely have its best home average attendance for a non-Civil War season. The current average of 42,801 is likely to stay approximately the same after Saturday’s game which would rank as the fourth-highest in school history.

SERIES: The series dates back to 1897 when Oregon State won a 16-0 decision at home.  Overall Washington has the advantage 59-34-4 thanks mainly to a 25-2 run between 1975 and 2003. The Beavers have won three straight in Corvallis. Last season No. 7 and 6-0 Oregon State lost its first game of the year, falling 20-17 at CenturyLink Field Oct 27, 2012. UW kicker Travis Coons’ 30-yard field goal with 1:20 remaining provided the winning margin. Beaver Quarterback Sean Mannion passed for 221 yards, but was intercepted four times, in his first game back after missing two contests after having knee surgery. Backup Cody Vaz entered the game late and led the Beavers on a game-tying march that culminated the 76-yard drive with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Connor Hamlett. The Beavers outgained UW 427-293. Washington led 10-0 at halftime, the only half of last season OSU was held scoreless and it marked the last time for an OSU offense until USC held the Beavers scoreless in the second half earlier this season. OSU has outgained UW over the last two games in the series by an avg. of 456 yards to 304.
